On Friday, 27 April 2007 5 PM, I will be conducting a small tour of interesting places to go and things to do in the virtual world of Second Life, for anyone who is interested. In case you are a member, please IM me and I’ll send you a TP link.
To those who have not registered but are interested, please go to www.secondlife.com and click on the big orange ‘Join Now’ button on the upper left. This will take you through a number of basic steps in choosing your avatar name and basic appearance, as well as asking you to download the 30 MB client/browser through which you will interact with the world.
Once you’re in Second Life, please click on the ‘search’ button on the bottom center of your browser, and enter ‘Rowl Electricteeth’ in there, which will bring up a small window giving you my profile. On that, there is a button marked ‘Send IM’ which sends messages directly to me wherever I am, just click and ask me to teleport you. I can then send you a teleport link, which is basically a popup window that offers to bring you instantly to my location. Once we catch up, I can explain the basics of navigation and usage of both the browser and the world.
We will be visiting commercial, educational and entertainment-based spaces, as well as things like art galleries, museums and clubs. We can end the evening with an informal get-together at the AT island lounge (ATGS is one of our development collaborators) or even in virtual Amsterdam or Dublin, maybe catch a live music performance.

Dear Rowl Electricteeth,
Good to see SL mentioned in Venturewoods.
I am interested in applications of second life that intermixes the real world.
I have experimented with using second life to publize a Mass Tree Planting Marathon.
I have participated in a virtual marketing case study unconference.
and of course the World Economic Forum coverage by Reuters.
Soon there is going to be the next version of the tree planting initiative with the learnings over the past six months. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile friend me: Labsji Link in second life.
I want to connect with other SL enthus.

Nilesh: But you can!
LOL that’s the point isn’t it? 😉
Join join. We’ll catch up in-world. Read your blog and I’m mildly surprised you’re not on SL already…
Why can’t I have a job like yours? [;-)]
Alok:
Not sure if you have seen http://secondlife.reuters.com/. Adam Pasick runs a “bureau” in second life.
This whole virtual reality is getting amazing, and as I see there would be a good demand for companies providing value-added services (not just the virtual pepsi which MTV has sold 11,000 cans of it!).
These would be services to build and support gigs like the party at the MTV’s virtual laguna beach. Teens are willing to pay ransom to transport out their avatars from second life to myspace and vice-versa or buy a specially developed ringtone for second life residents. The imagination doesn’t end.
The stickiness is pehnomenal. When I joined early last year, for fun I posted a weekly classified posing as a “Hindi instructor” and within two days I had 3 people e-mailing me!(First ever “Hindi instructor” in the virtual world?)
I’ll try to tap in while you are around.
Rahul showed me this and I thought it will be very useful to put here.
