Catch all the action at Proto.in – live!

At proto.in, the start ups are in the limelight. Every one of them come to proto.in to launch their product, get feedback and network with people who can help them in realizing their dream. Over the past editions, we have been doing this feedback and networking informally and also through forms at the venue. But the section of audience physically present at proto.in is only a fraction of startup community that follows the event otherwise.

This edition of Proto.in, we are launching a new initiative to address this problem – www.proto.in/live, which will be a one stop portal for all you guys following the event, both at the venue and on the web, to interact and understand about the start ups. The portal will have the following:

  • Featured content from live bloggers at the event aggregated by the proto.in team.
  • Live stream of twitter and Flickr updates
  • Forms to provide feedback and network with the startups.

As one of the most active entrepreneurship forums in the country, we expect the venturewoods members to follow the event at www.proto.in/live and share your wisdom with the presenting startups. Also, if you are a blogger writing about the startups at proto.in, feel free to submit the link to us on the portal and we will feature it. Look forward to your support.

Note: The portal will go live on July 24th , Friday @ 5.00 PM.

Regards,

Team Proto.in

The Tweetie Helpline | @start24x7

So, We have been kinda noticing this trend. Forums are great, and with the present rate at which the startup community seems to be growing, there is more and more a need to be real-time. We felt it, just by the way we were interacting with people on twitter, but there was certainly a need to do more.As of today, the Indian startup community has a helpline. @start24x7 Continue reading ‘The Tweetie Helpline | @start24x7′

Angel Investment Ecosystem in India | Need Inputs

Hi All,

I have heard speakers, panelists and entrepreneurs saying lack of angel financing as a major gap in the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem. At Canaan, we have always tried best to participate in the start up ecosystem. This year, we are contemplating to initiate a dialogue with angel investors in a more systematic manner. In this regard, I would like to reach out to angel investors on this forum for suggestions on the nature and form of this dialogue.

I would also love to hear challenges faced by angel investors while making investment decisions or working with companies. They can be in areas of deal sourcing, regulatory visibility, network in corporate groups, working with the companies after investment etc.

I would also request start ups to send me names of their own angel investors with contact address and I would reach out to them individually. Keep viewing this forum for more on this and you can write me at mukul.singhal@gmail.com

Regards,
Mukul

“Cloud Computing – A wave of opportunities for SMEs.” NASSCOM EMERGEOUT Conclave, 28th Aug 09

EMERGEOUT concalveHaving ridden the wave successfully on both the occasions – Delhi the first time, followed by Chennai, the third edition, would be hosted in the city where it all started. EMERGEOUT 2009 scheduled for 28th August in New Delhi is presently in its new avtar and growing stronger by the day. This time the theme, is “Cloud Computing – A wave of opportunities for SMEs”. There has been a paradigm shift in the thought process and CIOs are now mulling over on how to reduce capex cost and adopt a variable structure by engaging on a “pay as you use” model.

Technology as a business enabler, is fundamental to strategic decision making and adoption of a new model is feasible, only if there is real value. With technological obsolescence looming large, it is becoming progressively more difficult to assess what really works in the long run. How can SMEs leverage on the Cloud Computing model to effect a positive change in their business. For the service provider one question that begs to be answered – is it a viable revenue model? What is the total size of the market for On-demand Computing both at domestic and international level? How should we re-orient ourselves, to keep up with the Global Delivery Mechanism and ensure that we retain our leadership position. This really is a teaser and once we delve into the subject, you will appreciate even a one-day conference format is insufficient to address all the angles.

Some of the topics which would be addressed at the conference are:

* The Future of Software as a Service(SaaS) and Cloud Computing
* How SaaS and Cloud Computing are changing the IT industry and the Opportunities they present
* India market and the SaaS/Cloud Computing landscape
* Some case studies on companies who have adapted SaaS
* Demystifying SaaS, PaaS, IaaS business
* The Benefits of SaaS and doing business in the Cloud- User & Vendor Perspective
* VAS leveraging the SaaS platform
* Showcasing the NASSCOM EMERGE 50
* The Cloud with the SILVER lining

This conclave would provide the perfect platform to discuss and deliberate on this entirely new wave called the Cloud-Computing and its potential to change business. It will also address on the challenges faced as well as showcase some of the successful cases where the model has been adopted. If you are planning to switch over from your legacy system or start afresh, using  this model, then it would be well worth your time to be there in New Delhi on 28th August for the third edition of EMERGEOUT 2009, as we look into the future. I can tell you, this will be a unique opportunity to listen to some of the thought leaders of the IT Industry ideate on this subject. Look forward to meeting you..

Facebook Announces Developer Contest for India

New Delhi, India, July 3, 2009: The day for which the Indian developer community had been waiting has finally arrived. Facebook, whose mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected, announced today the launch of ‘Facebook India Developer Contest’ – a contest for Indian developers to showcase their web development skills by creating Facebook applications and Facebook Connect Integrations. The contest began on July 2 and ends on September 11, 2009 and is located at www.facebook.com/developercontestindia.

This is the first time Facebook is organizing a developer contest in India. Entries will be judged on originality, business potential, social utility, usefulness, expressive features, intuitiveness and potential of the application. There are three cash prizes; $4000 for the first place, $2000 for the second place and $1000 for the third, in each of the two categories.

To enter the contest, participants are required to create a Facebook platform application for use on the Facebook site or Facebook Connect integrations in English or Hindi and register their application in the contest’s homepage. The contest is open to Indian residents over the age of 16 with a facebook.com account

Ruchi Sangvi, Engineer and Manager of the Facebook platform said, “India ranks second in the number of software developers with 3.9 million software developers; we are very excited to engage with the developer community. Facebook has experienced a tremendous growth in India. Through the contest, we hope to see many rich experiences that leverage the social graph and empower Facebook users to share and connect.”

Facebook Connect enables people to combine their Facebook experiences with any participating Website, desktop application or mobile device.  When websites incorporate Facebook Connect, Facebook’s more than 200 million active users around the globe can automatically import profile information and bypass the need to build a friends’ list from scratch. More than 10000 websites have incorporated Facebook Connect since its general availability in December 2008.

About the Facebook India Developer Contest – The Facebook Developer Contest rewards the three most popular applications and the three most popular Facebook Connect Integrations in English of Hindi, with a prize of 4,000, 2,000, and 1,000 USD respectively.  Winners are chosen on a lot of criteria including originality, social utility and business potential.  The contest begins at 12:30:01 pm IST on July 2, 2009 and ends at 12:29:59 pm IST on September 11, 2009 and is located at www.facebook.com/developercontestindia.
