Rare Specie: A Bengali Entrepreneur

Okay, don’t chew me for saying this, but a Bengali Entrepreneur IS a rare specie. Let me introduce you to one that is both quite successful, and also generous about contributing back to the cause of promoting entrepreneurship: DimDim CEO DD Ganguly.

And if you do want to chew me, do so by proving me wrong and becoming great entrepreneurs!

    Lack of responses to this post probably proves your point :-)

    Nope it does not… There are a hell lot of Bengali Entrepreneurs out there. Subroto Bagchi, Subrata Roy Sahara, and many many others we haven’t heard of. For one I can say, a Bengali entrepreneur s not a rare breed now a days.

    You should have used: Rare Specie- A successful bengali entreprenuer. The problem is, there are so many struggling and failing ones too. If you include them all, it won’t be the same kumir chhanas again.

    Btw, I would say that the politics is the hotbed of entreprenuership, and I would perhaps rate our own Mamatadi as a true blue bong entreprenuer. She braved a total monopoly competitor and a hostile environment and today she is a fairly successful lady in her own domain.

    Cheers
    Shan

    Am not a bengali, but i find this post to be rather tasteless. Would not expect such posts - which should ideally be tagged ‘racism’ - to appear on a blog of such repute.

    @Sarmana: Na Jaani naa.. :)
    I am not a Bengali myself. I am a Kannadiga. But I stayed in Kolkata for about 7 years.

    @Shan: “Successful”!! That’s a bad remark to make. There are unsuccessful entrepreneurs in every part of the country.

    @Everybody: This topic has been quite interesting for me because, I was thinking in the exact opposite lines just a few days ago. Enterprising people generally look at Bengal with a distasteful look. Strangely enough, I have been hearing about scores of people all Bengalis turning to entrepreneurship off late. Some of my friends, friends’ friends and hence forth have ventured into entrepreneurship.

    You know what, we need not be so politically correct. It’s not fun.

    If you lived in early 90s Bengal, you would never have imagined that a simple lady could single-handedly take on the “system” and dent it over the years. If she were in private business, she would be a Meg Whitman!!
