Venkat, of Deccanet fame, has put an initiative in place to find a solution to lack of rural education - Billionways. It focuses on finding an entrepreneurial solution to the problem of illiteracy, and seeks to jumpstart the same through a non-profit fund. There is emphasis on sustainability, where after a while, each of these units become profitable for the local entrepreneur.
I wonder what is the funding per seat capacity, and whether it is low enough to make this truly large scale. Having said that, I can see people around me who are keen to contribute to such an initiative if they are confident that it will create a sustainable solution.

I am definitely available as a supporting volunteer or advisor for any such social entrepreneurship.
Thanks

Hi, There is an NGO called Schools4India which is essentially a startup with a unique BOT model for rural education.
This is their website: http://www.schoolsforindia.org
A very interesting concept where it is more likely making people a set of VCs
I am into the same business in rural and backeard regions of india, and am running into profits,I eish to stay and work in rural areas only. I have ideas where you can start your business in rural areas with as low capital of Rs. 50,000/- only upto 1 crore investments. and guranteed investment returns in just 2 -3 yrs.in some cases in just 1 yr. and you are gain involove in nobel profession of educating.
Where do I get more info Sanjay?
I want to pass the info to somebody else who want to start similar venture. My e-mail id is prady AT ieee.org
Check out www.ekalindia.org. It takes only 15000 Rs per year to provide basic education to about 30 children.
This program has been very successful in bringing basic (very basic) education to a lot of children. Instead of starting another new initiative and re-inventing the wheel, just support organizations like Ekal Vidyalaya. They already have a large network and lot of infrastructure in place and are better suited at scaling. They also have a large number of volunteers who have dedicated their lives for this.

Dear ekal
I am not looking for donation based approach.
I am looking for social entrepreneurship approach for-profit/non-profit(either/or/both) with investments, business plans, franchising, quality control etc etc to make it REALLY BIG, SCALABLE and REPLICABLE .
It should be an example of DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION OF SOCIAL CHANGE as posted by me in venturewoods

Hi Venkat,
Wonderfull initiative and great effort. This will surely have impact on growing India in Decades and Generations to come.
I have some idea to add up-
Why not we use technology to reach millions of children. Im not talking about e-learning , rather a different route
We can use the live telecast mechanism where by teachers from various locations (studios) can impart training live to childresn across location. this can be facilitated through video conferencing, where by each location with a center can avail this through television and with many to one & one to many interaction.
We can also tie-up with carriers like reliance or Bsnl on this novel initiative to reach out to millions
We can also make them earn by youngsters teaching little ones like class 9-12 students can teach for childresn from 1-5 there by making them self sustaining which can take care of thier education by itself
May be what i have written will not work. Its just a thought to your excellent initiative
Regards & All the best
