Loading ...An interesting article analyzing data from Alexa.
On a world radar India hardly shows up today and this article also talks about growth in South America, China, Korea but does not mention India.
My view is that with developments such as the Reliance ( Anil Ambani Group) raising a $5 billion fund for investments in Asia ( not just India) interesting properties that figure on the world radar will emerge from India as well ?
Is that too optimistic a view ? What do others feel ?
Growth is seen as swelling of foreign exchange chests and amassing of money by a few individuals in India. For a country to be taken seriously, growth must reflect in a common man’s daily life. Invention, production and public utility qualities will determine the real growth rate. When this happens India will be certainly in the global radar
Western media still portrays india as land of snake charmers and elephants. But lately its pushing facts and people do know its an emerging economic giant. Give them few more days and they will lap up to india. Even a small investment would be hyped sooner or later.
At the moment almost all new Indian web ventures seem to have only 1 selling point - First in India. These are also the ones getting maximum support from investment community. I dont think such an environment would lead to global properties coming out from India.
And Reliance, would they get time from selling ringtones?
It would be great if we had better mechanisms than Alexa to measure traffic on Indian websites. Reading thru’ http://www.alexa.com/site/help?index=12 , I can’t help but wonder how many resident Indians use the Alexa toolbar!
I do see google.co.in mentioned in the article.
Most of the leading Indian sites are hosted in US ( Rediff, Naukri, MoneyControl etc ) and this makes it difficult to rank them as country specific domains.
In addition to Alexa, Ranking.com is a good place to see some traffic trends.

The data provided by the Alexa toolbar will be very skewed against India. Infact I have never met an Indian or sat in any Indian netcafe where an Alexa toolbar is used.
So this report is interesting only from a US/West point of view. I.e. what is working there and what is not. As for India, the Google/Yahoo/Rediff toolbars could have given a better result if they ever publish this data. Infact maybe we should approach them to see what is the trend in India.
