Online Travel — more new fellas

Online travel continues to get interest. After half a dozen early stage investments and launches, consumer experience remains at abyssmal levels. My own view is that these players will figure it out over next few months, but a person I was talking to made a valid point — focus on user experience is in the genetic makeup of the company; its either there or not there…

Contentsutra has reports on progress at Flightraja, and another travel metasearch portal Meratrip. Looking for a breakaway on user experience…

I wish people ( both service providers /agents and consumers) are able to make use of this online travel biz. I have been searching for some travel sites but am unable to find one independent good source of information available online to compare with my company :)….is that to be considered vain?? he he he…….

    Hi Vinay,

This is probably a dead thread but having read some of the stuff on here I wanted to know how you set up the mobile payment option, who you contacted and if you have been able to get the network operators to agree to allow one to purchase tickets through sms. I was looking at the possible use of sms as an avenue for receiving subscriptions for magazines.

    Thanks,
    Pranav

    Vinay,

I first saw Flightraja on Sahads website and tried it. I travel frequently as i am a management consultant, and have now started using websites to get good deals. While the first few pages have been great, i somehow for some technical glitch end up not booking on your site and go to the airline site after a check on the fares and book. I think u need to check the backend…. u must have lost atleast 5 tickets of mine in the last 1 month….

    Hi Ramesh,

This is how you use sms to do things.

    Step1: type
    fly del bom 28 sep

    and sms to 4242
What we just tried is fly from del to bombay on 28 Sep

Then when you get the airlines rates :

    Step2: type

    fly book

    and sms to 4242.

YOu will get a call within 15 minutes, to help you further to book.

Please try and send me your feedback as to if its easy and user friendly

    Regards,
    Vinay

    Hi Vinay

Great to see that your company has readily embraced the mobile model. Cheers! I hope more companies will come forward with such mobile-enabled services and that VCs will fund them.
